“I can’t seem to focus on anything for more than five minutes.”

Your brain is like a puppy in a toy store. There are so many balls and bones to play with that the puppy just runs in circles! To help the puppy sit still, you have to give it one special toy to focus on and tell it “good job” every time it stays still for a little while.

Why This Happens: You are likely experiencing “Cognitive Load” limits where your “Critical Factor” is overloaded with data. If you don’t have enough meaningful challenge, your mental engine can “rust-out” and become “stagnant,” making it hard to start new tasks. It’s usually what happens on a screen addiction.

How to Fix It: Practice “Sustained Concentration”. Pick small a task like reading one page and tell your “internal robot” it’s doing a great job. Use a “Transition Ritual” to clear old tasks before starting a new one.

Context: The Yerkes-Dodson Law shows that we need an optimal amount of “pressure” to perform. By breaking tasks into tiny pieces, we stay in the healthy “Stretch” zone and avoid the “Overload” zone.
