Everything is different at this new school, and I hate it

Imagine you are a superhero who is only used to fighting one kind of bad guy. When you move to a new city, the bad guys look different, and the buildings are new! But remember, you still have your “magic belt” full of tools. Change is just a new game level, and you already have everything you need to win the prize.

Why This Happens: Your subconscious is a “goal-striving mechanism” that views change as a threat to survival. If you rely on “untrained learning” that says “new is dangerous,” you will feel like you’re losing a “battle of wills” with your environment. Your body is trying to “clean up” the effort of adapting by making you want to stay in your old routine.

How to Fix It: Replace the “Picture of the Old School” in your mind with a “Picture of a New Success” at the new school. This redirects your “internal routine” to look for things to enjoy rather than things to miss.

Context: Sigmund Freud viewed symptoms (like “hating” a new place) as symbolic ways your mind tries to deal with internal conflicts. By evaluating this with “adult wisdom,” you can achieve permanent relief.
